Hello again from the cold, wet, very wet area
of Northern Virginia.  When will it ever get to
be warm and sunny again?  Well at least I am
still breathing, more or less.

HISTORY CHANNEL PRESENTATION:

The History Channel will present a program on
9 June 2003 entitled "Blood from a Stone".
The showing will start at 2100 (9 PM) EST.

The story is about two 254th Infantry
Regiment soldiers who acquired a large amount
of diamonds and other valuables, buried them
and 50 years later they were uncovered.

I mention this showing because it may be of
interest to 254th Infantry  and 63d Infantry
Division veterans.  But, more importantly I
have been contacted several times by writers,
reporters and the like concerning the
authenticity of this story.  There are a number
of things that just don't ring true as to dates,
areas of events, etc.

I will watch tomorrow evening with
anticipation. If you have the opportunity to
view this film, please let me know your
thoughts on the events.  If you happen to have
been in F Company 254th Infantry at the time
of the alleged events and could further confirm
or deny them, that would be also be good to
know

PHOTOGRAPHS:

Since I was last with you I have received a
number of new photos and they have either
been entered on the web site or in process of
being entered.

I even have some photos of Camp Shanks, NY
our port of debarkation for Europe.  I have also
included a couple of photos of well know
German weapons, the Nebelwerfer (Screaming
Meanie) and the Panzerfaust.  Also being added
are photos of a Nazi Flag, signed by a number
of 255th Infantry troops during the war , that
is now on display in a museum.

So please take the time to check out these new
photos.  They will always be in the last few
pages of each photo section of the Web Site.

Don't forget that I am still looking for photos
and memorabilia images to add to the web site
and to the historical CD's of the 63rd Infantry
Division.

Send them to me by e-mail attachments along
with captions or by regular mail to Fred Clinton
102 South Jenkins Street, Alexandria, VA
22304.  Once received I will scan them and
return all photos to you, if desired.

MORNING REPORT PROJECT:

Well I finished the December 1944-May 1945
Morning Report project for the 254th Infantry
Regiment.

Bill Scott, 63rd Infantry Division Association
Historian, and I hesitated to go further with the
project until we could assess the value of the
copies that appear on the 254th Infantry
Regiment Morning Report CD.

While some of the images are not very clear
due to the poor quality of the copies that were
obtained from the National Records Center, we
have determined that the results are still very
useful in looking up data relating to men of the
63rd Infantry Division.

I have used the 254th Infantry Regiment
Morning Report CD several times to verify
dates and degree of seriousness of wounds of
254th Infantry veterans.

So I am going ahead with the project and have
already starting scanning Morning Reports for
the 253d Infantry Regiment.  I hope to
complete all three regiments and some
supporting units prior to the Columbus, Ohio
Reunion in August.

Although these CD's are not being prepared for
sale but for use in historical research they will
be offered for sale for $12 each.  As in the case
of the other historical CD's prepared by the
63rd Infantry Division Association Historians,
they are formatted to be read with Acrobat
Reader which will be included on the CD.

REUNION:

Another reminder to make your plans to meet
with us at the Columbus, Ohio 63rd Infantry
Division Association Reunion.  It promises to
be a great reunion.
Please go to the Reunion
Page for details.

REQUESTS FOR INFORMATION:

Requests for information relating to 63rd
Infantry Division Veterans were somewhat
slow for a couple of months, that is until
Memorial Day.  Since that time the Association
Historian, Bill Scott and I have been very busy
researching and answering inquiries, mainly
from children or relatives of 63rd Infantry
Division veterans.

As I process these requests I am amazed at the
amount of information that we have available
and how much we can tell someone about each
veteran of the 63rd Infantry Division.

Much of our information has come from
official records, but a lot of information in form
of photos, personal experience writings, etc has
come from our veterans.  For this Bill Scott
and I thank you.

In this connection, if you are a veteran of the
63rd Infantry Division please consider sending
us your personal experiences and photographs
for file in our historical records.  Remember, if
you don't record those experiences now, they
are lost forever when you die.
