Issue Number 42 May 2008
All information in this Newsletter is developed by Fred Clinton, Webmaster, 63rd Infantry Division and does not necessarily reflect the
views of other individuals and is in no way an Official Publication of the 63rd Infantry Division or 63rd Infantry Division Association.
I thought it was about time I prepared
another Internet Newsletter to bring you up
to date on what has been going on with the
website and other things relating to the 63rd
Infantry Division.
First current items:
NATIONAL REUNION:
The 60th annual reunion of the 63rd Infantry Division
Associations will take place in Indianapolis Indiana
from 20-24 August 2008. Details of this reunion can
be found at the following address:
www.63rdinfdiv.com/reunionspage1.html
PHOTOGRAPHS AND PERSONAL
MEMOIRS
Unfortunately our veterans are passing away
at an alarming rate and often wartime photos
and personal memoirs are lost or put away
without being shared with others.
Now is the time to let us preserve those
photographs of 63rd Infantry Division
veterans and to record their personal
experiences. So if you have either
photographs or memoirs that have not been
sent in to be included in our historical files
please do so before they are lost forever.
Photos can be sent in as attachments to to
e-mail to me at joyclint@comcast.net
Please be sure to include a caption for each
photo if possible. Photos can also be sent
to me at 102 S. Jenkins Street, Alexandria,
VA 22304 on CDs in jpg format. The
original photos can also be sent to that
address and after processing I will return
them.
Once process photos will appear in the
appropriate photo section of the web site and
on the Pictorial History of the 63rd Infantry
Division CD and on the History CD for the
unit they pertain to. Copies of these CDs
are furnished to a number of museums and
libraries including the Library of Congress
and the Camp Van Dorn Museum..
Written experiences are also included on the
history CD of the unit concerned and if
desired we will send them to the Library of
Congress Veterans History Program.
Please don't let those memoirs and photos be
lost to future generations.
CAMP VAN DORN MUSEUM:
The Camp Van Dorn Museum is up and
running in Centreville, MS. From what I
hear they have been getting wonderful
support from the 63rd Infantry Division
veterans.
Still needed by the Museum are military
momentos from WWII and the 63rd
Infantry Division as well as donation of
funds for maintenance and displays. If you
can provide either of these please contact the
Museum at 138 East Main, Centreville, MS
39631 or by e-mail: info@vandorn.org or
by phone at 601-645-9000. Their web site
can be accessed at : www.vandorn.org
Your support and assistance will be
appreciated.
NOTE: I see that the newsletter is a little
lopsided, but I have run out of subjects to
write about and don't want to split the "walk
through" of the web site.
I'll try and do better next time.
A TOUR OF THE 63RD INFANTRY
DIVISION WEB SITE
Over the past few years the 63rd Infantry
Division web site has grown from just a few
pages and photos to a site of over 580 pages
with almost 3100 hundred photographs and
images. Sometimes when I "leaf" through the
pages I am amazed at the amount of information
contained on the web site and every now and
then find a section that I had almost forgotten
about.
So, with that in mind I thought I would "walk"
you through the web site and point out some
areas that you may not have found as yet.
The starting point will be the "INDEX" page- this
is the page that comes up when you type in
www.63rdinfdiv.com to reach the web site.
You can reach any part of the web site from the
INDEX page, sometimes directly other times by
going to a page and then clicking on subjects
within that page.
Recap of the Index Page:
** On the left of the page you will see a menu
that will allow you to go directly to the subject
matter clicked.
** Just below the "Welcome" message you will
see "Table of Contents"- Click on this and go to
a page that list all major subjects alphabetically.
Click on the subject desired and go to that
section.
** Want to see what the 63rd Infantry
Division Wartime Newspaper, "The Blood and
Fire" looked like? See excerpts from a number
of these publications at "The Blood and Fire"
** Want to see who appears in all of the photos
included on the web site? Go to " Alphabetical
Listing of Individuals appearing in Photographs
on this web site"
** Want see what type of photos are included
and photos of a particular unit? Go to the
following:
Photo Index Page 1 (Combat Photos)
Photo Index Page 2 (Occupation Photos)
Photo Index Page 3 (Miscellaneous Photos)
On these pages you will find the subject and/or
unit listed. Click on the subject and/or unit and
you will go to the page on which those photos or
images appear.
** Want to see all of the photos included on the
site , then go to the "Thumbnail photo images
pages" . Once there you can view all photos
appearing on the web site, select one and click
on it and you will go to that photo in a larger
image.
Thumbnail photos- Combat
Thumbnail photos- Occupation
Thumbnail photos- Miscellaneous
** Want to see the alphabetical list of names of
individuals on whom information is being sought?
Then go to "List of names of individuals on
whom information is being sought."
** Want to see the alphabetical list of names of
veterans who are looking for their buddies?
Then go to "The Buddy Search List"
** Want to know if your buddy is an active
member of the 63rd Infantry Division
Association? Then go to "Association Members"
** Want to review all of the Internet
Newsletters starting with issue #1? Then go to
" Internet Newsletters"
** Want to see if a unit or individual is
mentioned anywhere on the web site? Then at
the bottom of the Index page after the Internet
Newsletter entry you can type what you are
looking for in the box and click Search. You
will be rewarded with a list of where on the web
site the name or subject appears and be able to
access that page by clicking on the listing. For
example: If you were to type in 254th Infantry
Regiment you would receive a listing with 218
entries relating to the 254th Infantry Regiment.
If you type in a name- say "Louis Hibbs" our
CG you will get about 15 listings. Try it out and
see what happens, if anything.
** Another major page for accessing other
sections of the web site is the "Division History"
page. Go to that page and find a number of
interesting historical subjects for you to explore.
** Want to know which other divisions have
web sites? Go to the Related Web Sites page
and find the division insignia of all divisions that
I am aware of that now have some type of web
site. Click on the division patch and go to that
site. Also the page just prior to the division
listings contains a number of related web sites
including the Camp Van Dorn Museum site.
OK I guess that is about enough information to
keep you busy for awhile. If you have any
questions about the site or contents, please
contact me at joyclint@comast.net or by phone
