Issue Number 52 March 2013
All information in this Newsletter is developed by Fred Clinton, Webmaster, 63rd Infantry Division and does not necessarily reflect the
views of other individuals and is in no way an Official Publication of the 63rd Infantry Division or 63rd Infantry Division Association.
It has been almost one year since my
last Newsletter. Where does the time
go. I guess once a person gets over
85 years old, the time is set at "fast
forward". A lot has developed since
my last newsletter so I will try to bring
you up to speed on the current status
of the 63rd Infantry Division
Association and go over some old
subjects just to keep you on your toes.
63d Infantry Division
Association status
Well it looks as if the 63rd Infantry
Division Association is biting the dust
at least the association that we have
all learned to love and enjoy.
Due to fast dwindling of membership
and individuals to keep things running
as it was for the past 52 years the
President of the Association and the
Board of Directors has agreed to
turnover the helm to members of the
63rd Infantry Division Association,
USAR after they so graciously agreed
to assume the task. By this action we
hope that the history of the 63rd
Infantry Division (Blood and Fire) will
live on and not die with the death and
illnesses of our WWII buddies.
So all of our association records,
funds, etc are being turned over to our
USAR comrades. In that they are a
somewhat active organization at least
our legacy will be carried on for a few
more years.
Fortunately we had the foresight to
spread our history, photos and
memories all over the good old USofA
in the form of providing our historical
CDs and DVDs to libraries, museums,
US Army bases for their interest and
continuing research You can view a
list of organizations receiving our
historical files on Newsletter Number 50
In addition to those listed, the Historical
files have also been furnished to The
Library of Congress, The George C.
Marshall Library, The Camp Van Dorn
Museum and the Camp Blanding
Museum.
If you can think of any other libraries or
museums that might have an interest
in our files please let me know.
Purple Heart award for
Cold Weather injuries.
Just a reminder, before it is too late.
Check Newsletter #51 on new Army
policy relating to the award of the
Purple Heart Medal for cold weather
injuries. This could make the
difference between obtaining health
care from the Veterans Administration
and not being eligible for treatment at
VA medical facilities.
Photos and historical
images:
I am, of course, still looking for those
snapshots you took during your training
with the 63rd Infantry Division or during
your combat time with the division. Send
them to me as attachments to e-mail,
along with captions(joyclint@comcast.net)
or by regular mail to me at : Fred Clinton,
102 S. Jenkins Street, Alexandria, VA
22304.
Morning Report Project
In my last newsletter I discussed my
project for scanning the remaining unit
Morning Reports of the 63rd Infantry
Division.
Well it looks like that project is completed
although we could not locate the unit
morning reports for the months of July,
August, September, October and
November 1944 for all division units. Also
unit morning reports for the month of
December 1944 for all units except the
three regiments could not be located.
Will they show up in someone's
basement? I don't know, but I hope they
do, and soon.
Bronze Star Medal
awards.
Surprisingly I am still giving out
information relating to the award of the
Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious service
for all men of the 63rd Infantry Division
who earned the coveted Combat
Infantryman Badge and the Combat
Medical Badge. Also I still receive letters
and e-mail telling me that the awards have
been made and received.
As you know from previous newsletters,
the next of kin for deceased veterans can
make application for the award if not
already awarded. Details for making
application can be found at
www.63rdinfdiv.com/bulletinboardpage2.ht
ml
If you wish to make application for this
award and do not have the necessary
documentation to support your request,
please let me know and I will research our
files for orders and or unit morning
reports that will provide the necessary
documentation.

The French Legion of
Honor.
At the risk of repeating myself I would like
to again refer you to the award of The
French Legion of Honor to World War II
veterans who had a hand in helping to
liberate France.
This is a prestigious award and only given
to a select few Americans. Details for
applying and qualifying for this award can
be found at the following
address:www.63rdinfdiv.com/LegionofHono

Processing time once the application has
been submitted to final decision by the
French Government is rather lengthy, so
don't wait too long to submit your
application.
