Issue Number 53                                      October 2013
All information in this Newsletter is developed by Fred Clinton, Webmaster, 63rd Infantry Division  and does not necessarily reflect the
views of other individuals and is in no way an Official Publication of the 63rd Infantry Division or 63rd Infantry Division Association.
Hello to all from my home in Alexandria,
Virginia just across the Potomac River
from Washington D C, seat of our
government that is now shut down.  Is this
crazy or what?  To make matters worse I
have been waiting for several weeks to
get a follow up Ultra Sound at Fort Belvoir
Virginia and now they call me to tell me
that the appointment is cancelled due to
not having anyone to operate the Ultra
Sound.  I wonder how many of you will be
inconvenienced by this little kids
brinkmanship.

Reunions.

Unfortunately I have no new news about
any reunions coming up.  As soon as I
hear of one I will post it in the Reunions
Section of the website.
As you may know there will no longer be
any national reunions.  I expect that one
or two of the local chapters may hold
mini-reunions.  The only chapters I know
of that may have such reunions are the
IMOK chapter (mid west) and the
Philadelphia chapter.

The Blood and Fire Publication.

I have been informed that the Blood and
Fire Publication will again be issued soon,
thanks to the efforts of Judith Schaefer,
daughter of Ed Fowle.  I am not sure how
much longer that can be done, but it is
good to see that someone is making an
effort to keep us in touch with our WWII
buddies.  Thanks Judith and whoever else
had a hand in preparing the latest issue.

The Battle of Jebsheim, France.

For those of you who experienced the
Battle of Jebsheim, France first hand or
who are interested in reading about one
of the most horrific battles of the Colmar
Pocket, a Swiss Historian, Jurg Herzig has
recently written a rather detailed and
interesting account of the battle.  You can
view his account of that battle at the
following address.
A review of the Battle of
Jebsheim with photos, then and
now, by Mr Jurg Herzig a Swiss
Historian
Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service.
As in the past I am again bringing to your
attention the Army Regulations that allow a
veteran of WWII who earned the Combat
Infantryman Badge to apply for the award of a
Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service.
Fortunately next of kin are allowed to make such
an application as well as the veteran.
If you have an interest in this please go to the
following address for details.

Photographs and Images.

It is no surprise that I am still seeking
photographs of the men of the 63rd Infantry
Division during their training, combat and
occupation periods.  Surprisingly I have received
a number of photos during recent weeks to add
to our historical files.
All photos received will be added to the
appropriate photo section of the 63d Infantry
Division Web Site and to the Pictorial History of
the 63rd Infantry Division CD.  They will also be
added to the History CD of the unit concerned.
So, check those drawers, trunks, cigar boxes and
bookshelves to gather those photos that can help
preserve the history of the 63rd Infantry Division.
Send them to me as attachments to e-mail
(joyclint@comcast.net) along with captions or by
regular mail to Fred Clinton, 102 S. Jenkins
Street, Alexandria, VA 22304 or as some have
done, include them on a CD or DVD and mail
them to me.
Any photos received by regular mail will be
returned to the sender after processing.
If you would like to see the photos added since
the last Internet Newsletter go to the following

French Legion of Honor Medal.

As in the past I am also repeating my notice
about the process for a WWII veteran of battle in
France to apply for the prestigious French Legion
of Honor.  Our veterans are still receiving this
award, so if interested in making an application
for the award, go to the following address for
details;

After thoughts--If you are interested in viewing the Blood and Fire Publications for the past
few years you can do so by going to the following address:

I was recently  informed by Ed Fowle, President of the 63rd Infantry Division Association
that the association was going to donate a sum of money to the Army Museum to be
constructed near Fort Belvoir, Virginia.  Based on this contribution the name of the 63rd
Infantry Division will be displayed proudly in a special honor area.  The Museum is supposed
to be completed sometime during the next 2-3 years.  Lets hope we are still around so that
we can visit it.
