| PFC James Maiura receives the Combat Infantryman Badge and the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service at his home after a 74 year wait. In Jun 2016 Pfc Maiura's son contacted me about searching files to see if his father was ever awarded the CIB for his service with C Company 253d Infantry Regiment. Unfortunately at that time I did not have access to the orders of the 253d Infantry Regiment. Members of the 63d Infantry Division association searched government records centers for over 30 years looking for those files, but to no avail. In March 2019 I happened to find out that the Army Awards and Decorations Branch had a file of those orders made from microfilm, albeit rather blurry in most cases. I obtained a copy of that file and was able to find that Pfc Maiura had in fact been awarded the CIB. I advised his son of my find and sent copies of orders and morning reports pertaining to PFC Maiura and he submitted an application to recognize the CIB award and to award Pfc Maiura a Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service based on that award. In May 2019 Pfc Maiura's son was advised that those awards had been approved and they were received by the Maiura family in August 2019. The following are photos of Pfc Maiura receiving his awards with family and friends present. The presentation was made by retired US Army Captain Thomas Lemin . It was a great pleasure for me to have been able to help Pfc Maiura obtain the Combat Infantryman Badge he had been dreaming about for over 74 years. It is stories like this that make my work with the 63rd Infantry Division veterans so rewarding, |
