My father has written a journal on his wartime
experiences as a scout in the 1st Squad, 1st
Platoon, “I” Company, 254th Regiment. I have
taken this hand written journal and created a .pdf
file which I'll send to anyone who would like to
have a copy. Starts with him learning of the Pearl
Harbor attack, finishing high school and enlisting in
the Army, then on to boot camp at Camp Van
Dorn and then into Europe, and finishing with the
end of the war and occupation duty in Germany.
John Ritner passed away in 2006 at the age of 80.
You can contact John Rither's son (David Ritner)
by e-mail at ritner@us.ibm.com and he can send a
soft copy of the journal back to you.
Son has copies of war time journal from
his father, Pfc John Wayne Ritner, I
Company, 254th Infantry Regiment.
